MATTE FINISH NEON SUMMER TUMBLER TUTORIAL!
https://youtu.be/l0Ks0Kdw4dA
Hey guys, I'm starting with this tumbler that I found from Tj Maxx, and it was $9.99. It has marbly colorful print, taking the lid off, stickers, and everything. I didn't like the pattern on here, but I like the shape of the cup, prepping with mattifying, then going in with some spray paint first. I wanted to do I meant to do like a darker gray just to cover up all this marbling we had underneath, but it ended up being a lighter gray, so it worked out fine just doing a full coat of that.
We're going in with ivory silk. I thought it was gorgeous and would work perfectly for this cup. My glove ripped there. I got those dishwashing gloves again. I had some, and I had to throw them away, so that's why I'm using latex gloves.
Then going in with this fluorescent pink, I had a layer of epoxy. I don't know where the footage went for that. But, still, I find that sometimes when you're Using different paints on top of other paints, it can fade and look weird so what I did is do a layer of epoxy in between so that way your fluorescent paint is not going to sort of seep into another color's just going to sit on top of the epoxy. And just be bright. I'm doing an ombre effect, fading it towards the top.
You can keep it like this if you want. I did more after I filmed, and that's what we're looking like. I took some acetone to clean up the top. I realized there was no way to clean up the top and leave it like that gradient, so what I'm doing is I'm just wiping off all of the excess paint. Then as I go up, you'll see that it leaves an excellent effect. I have some ideas for it to do a couple of different cups, but just swiping upkeep, cleaning it with the acetone until you like how it looks.
Then we're adding our second layer of epoxy, the one-to-one artistry facet. It's what I use ninety percent of the time. I just love it so much. It's Thick and dries so fast, so I avoided the paint just in case it's smeared. I've never used this fluorescent paint before, but it was fine, so there was no need to be careful. I don't think I'm ready for you. Then it's time for decals, so I have this kind of bronzy iridescent vinyl that I cut in summer. This font is In it was the overlap. They changed it to something else, but just a fun tiny font I found.
I did an offset in black for that little decal, cut out some black palm trees, and cut out several different sizes. I did just a larger one, and then I did a couple of just cute little pairs of palm trees. I didn't know how many I was going to use. I ended up doing one big one and a little duo to me, so it looks like I cut too much into this, or my machine did. However, it still worked just took me a minute to get it off the paper, so then we're going to stack that right on top of the black offset. This is much easier to do before putting it on the cup.
I lined that up on my cup. I like to set it up and down. Then, when I get a better straight line, I measure where I want, stick it to the cup, and add my palm trees. I wanted to ensure that you could see the palm leaves on the cup while looking at the words on the front. So I didn't want to do it too far back. But, still, I just wanted to ensure that you could see part of it, so I placed that on the front.
Then put the other two on another side. It was time for the third layer of epoxy. Then the fourth layer is just to make it nice and smooth because when you do a matte finish, you want your epoxy to be 100 perfect. If there are any dimples or imperfections, you'll see that on the matte finish.
So taking mattify and my little white non-abrasive pad just gets some on there, get your pad a little bit wet, and then you're going to scrub in circular motions all over the cup. This is going to take you anywhere from two to ten minutes is what it usually is, just depending on the colors of your cup, and a cup that is straight up and down is going to be a lot easier than any cup that has a kind of bevels or ridges is going to be a lot harder it always still shiny in those spots so just rinse it off, and then you can dry it off. So you can kind of see where it's still shiny.
Do you have any still shiny spots that you need to work on so right here you can see on the bottom's still pretty shiny and then at that top rim where it kind of slopes out, so I need to go back in and went back in a second time and just went to town scrubbing then came back in rinsing it off?
I just wipe it down with a paper towel, and then I blow on it to get it to dry, and you can just see as it dries how it's just a perfect matte finish. So I just really thought this cup would look great with a matte finish, and I haven't done one in a while, so I was excited about it.
I replaced the lid, and she was done. I think this iridescent vinyl looks pretty in a matte finish; I wasn't sure, but it just has that shine, and I think the color pops. I'm happy with this cup. I hope you guys like this tutorial.
I will see you guys in the next one. Bye.
