OCEAN WAVE TRAY AND COASTER SET! Using resin in silicone molds!
Hey, guys. Today we will do a tray and coaster set. We are doing ocean waves. To do this, I started with my aquata mica powder and mixed it in. I already have the mixed epoxy that I separated into cups and the stormy. This is a dark, almost greenish color but pretty both for ocean colors.
Then taking those epoxies with the mica and adding it towards the side, I want the blue ocean on one side and then bleeding into clear, starting with the darker color. You could use any color for this, but I like the green tones for the ocean. If I need to know what I want, add the other color.
Then we're filling up the rest with clear. We're only filling these trays and coasters halfway if that is less than half. Because we're doing several layers, we want to fill it up only a little. That is a key thing with waves like this in molds. You don't want to do too much on your first layer, or else you're not going to be able to add to it by adding a little bit more to fill in the gaps. Then really go in there with your heat gun. This will help with air bubbles, move everything around a little bit, and give it a little more of an oceany look.
Then I'm taking alcohol and giving you a little spritz to break up that color and give it some texture. Then I wanted handles in the tray. I waited about 30 minutes. That's going to depend on the epoxy you're sometimes using. It's sooner. Sometimes it's longer. Add your handles while that's curing. That way, you can wait to drill any holes to add them until the next day. I mixed up some more this is going down first. This is the trickier part of doing waves in coasters. We're doing a super thin layer, and we're going to do part that the edge of this clear will be our starting wave.
I'm taking my finger, spreading it out evenly, and adding a little here and there if I need it, but I want to fill up only some of the mold with the epoxy. Then again, with the heat gun, get in there but do not spread it onto the part we don't want it on. Keep it on that half, or three-quarters, whichever you prefer, then I mixed up some of my wave white, pouring that right on the edge of the clear.
Then you're taking the heat gun and blowing it back as much or as little as you like. Again, this is a personal preference. Then give it a little spritz with my sea spray. You can see it shows that lacing that we all want with waves you can add a little bit more white if you need it, then once that's here, we're going to do the same thing again, but we're staying further back, we get a stacked wave you can stack however many waves you want I'm doing two on these but again repeat the steps from the first wave.
I am using our artistry fast-set epoxy. I don't think I mentioned that but what's nice about the fast set is it cures way faster, and you're able to do your next layer way quicker alI find it holds the wave nicer, like the selling of the wave, sometimes your epoxy if it's too runny it can kind of blend away. Our trays and coasters need to be level now that we have stacked waves. We'll fill up the rest with a clear mix of your epoxy and pour it in using the heat gun, all the same steps. We're doing the final coat of clear.
Everything is excellent, flat, and level on the top, but we still have that actual texture and depth from the stacked waves inside, and I finished these with a metallic silver edge. I have a video on how I spent my coasters if you want to check that out. I hope you like this video.
